The AR 700 is an on-line diagnostic system used to detect, analyze and locate PD signals occurring in high voltage equipment.

The four Acoustical Sensors are evenly spaced about 3 feet apart and measurements are taken. These sensors must be moved around the entire transformer. If a PD source is identified, then the sensors should once again be moved to try and triangulate in on the source. The instrument is standalone and can connect to a computer for downloading and viewing data.

Acoustical PD instruments do not compete with electrical PD measuring systems. Rather they are complimentary. Acoustical measurements will not be as sensitive as electrical measurements, but can be used to help locate a PD source.
